Button load cells are small, flat load cells that can only measure compression. They work by using a bent beam elastic element, which is a thin piece of metal that bends when force is applied to it. The amount of bending is measured by strain gauges, which are electrical sensors that change their electrical resistance when they are stretched or compressed.
